Best Document Scanner Apps for Android: Choose by File and Destination
Compare Galaxy Document Scan, Adobe Scan, Google Drive, and OneDrive for Android. Choose by page type, searchable text, and where the saved file must go.
- Use Galaxy Document Scan for a compatible Galaxy phone, especially when its newer curved-page handling matters; use Adobe Scan when a searchable PDF workflow is the priority.
- Google Drive can save Android scans as PDF or JPG in a chosen Drive folder. OneDrive saves scans as PDFs to OneDrive, not as local-only files.
- A scanned PDF is not automatically selectable text. Check the saved file and the available OCR route; OneDrive's Recognize text feature is still rolling out.
- Microsoft Lens is retired for new scans. Choose a current scanner, then verify page order, edges, readability, text search, and the saved destination before sharing.
Choose by Document and Destination
The best document scanner app for Android depends on the page in front of you and where the finished file belongs. A curved book page, a flat receipt, and a multi-page form create different capture problems. So do a searchable PDF for a colleague and a quick image saved to a cloud folder. Choose the route that produces the file you need, then inspect that file before treating the scan as finished.

This is a shortlist by task, not a measured accuracy ranking. Each route can produce an image of text; whether that text is searchable or selectable depends on its OCR capability and the result saved on your account. Check Curved Pages on Galaxy
A book near its binding and a form with a folded corner can defeat a neat rectangular crop. Samsung's One UI 9 announcement describes Document Scan improvements for curved book pages and corner-folded papers, along with an improved Finger Eraser. The software was introduced on the Galaxy Z Fold8 series and Flip8 before its broader rollout began with the Galaxy S26 series. Availability still depends on the specific Galaxy model, region, software, and feature.
If that is the page you scan most often, first check whether the improved Document Scan is present on your phone. Place the page in even light, keep important text away from your fingers, and inspect the preview before saving. The edge should follow the page rather than cut through a line of print. A flattened-looking result is useful only if words near the spine and folded corner remain readable.
For a flat document on a non-Galaxy Android phone, the Galaxy-specific improvement offers no reason to choose hardware you do not have. Adobe Scan, Drive, and OneDrive provide their own capture and crop routes. Pick the one whose saved format and account destination match the job, then check the actual result instead of assuming a feature name guarantees a clean page.
Compare OCR, Plans, and Storage
Adobe describes Adobe Scan as a PDF scanner with automatic edge handling, cleanup, and OCR for searchable documents. Basic scanning is available without treating every advanced Acrobat feature as free. If you need editing or another advanced function, check the current plan attached to that function before choosing it for regular work.
Google's Drive scanning instructions for Android cover cropping, rotating, filtering, cleaning, and adding pages. You can save a PDF or JPG to a selected Drive folder; Google also documents searchable PDFs. The destination is Drive, so verify the account and folder if you handle personal and work documents on the same phone. A JPG image should not be mistaken for a PDF with a selectable text layer.
Microsoft's OneDrive Android scan guide covers document, whiteboard, business-card, and photo capture, with the scan saved as a PDF in OneDrive. Microsoft's separate Recognize text guidance describes OCR for scanned PDFs, but that control is rolling out across Android and iOS. Creating a OneDrive PDF does not prove that Recognize text is available on your current client or that text is already selectable. OneDrive is also not a local-only save route for these scans.
Microsoft Lens should not be treated as a fifth current choice. Microsoft's retirement notice says retirement began January 9, 2026, support and store availability ended February 9, and new scans stopped March 9. Existing scans may remain accessible in the installed app when signed into its last active account. OneDrive is Microsoft's stated scanning alternative.
Inspect the Saved File Before Sharing
Open the result in its actual destination, not just the camera preview. Count the pages and confirm their order. Check the top, bottom, and binding-side edges for clipped text; inspect small print, signatures, and any glare over dates or amounts. A scan with beautiful borders but an unreadable total is not ready to send.
Then check the property your recipient needs. If the task calls for a searchable PDF, search for a distinctive word inside the saved file and try selecting a line of text. If that fails, the file may be an image-only PDF or the OCR feature may not have run or reached your account. Reopen the relevant app's OCR route and verify the output rather than assuming that the .pdf extension settles the question.
Finally, confirm filename, file type, folder, and account. Drive and OneDrive saves can land in different cloud accounts; a recipient may have access to neither until you share deliberately. Use Reviewed Fields in a Separate Android Task
A saved scan and a completed phone action are different results.
