Best Android In-Person Meeting Notes Apps Without a Bot: 5 Routes
Compare Granola, Fireflies, Otter, Notta, and FoneClaw for in-person Android meeting notes. Check microphone capture, language, source review, and follow-up.
- Choose by the output you need: Granola for live notes and desktop sync, Fireflies for a mobile meeting notebook, Otter for supported live conversations, Notta for selected bilingual capture, or FoneClaw for saved-recording review.
- Bot-free means using the phone microphone without inviting an online meeting participant. It does not mean consent-free capture, offline AI, or identical mobile and desktop capabilities.
- Check speech-language support and recording allowances before the meeting. Granola mobile uses one predominant language, Otter documents a specific French/English exception, and Notta separates bilingual uses from other limits.
- Try a short consented session and inspect the saved result. Verify corrected dates, conditional decisions, and unresolved assignments before sharing notes or confirming a separate follow-up action.
Choose the Phone-Microphone Workflow You Need
For an in-person meeting, choose the Android app by what you need to capture and review afterward. These five routes use the phone microphone without requiring an online meeting bot to join the room.
| Candidate | Input and review output | Choose it when | Main check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Granola | Live phone notes and transcript, synced to desktop | You want notes during the conversation | No saved audio playback; mobile language and desktop dependencies |
| Fireflies | Direct recording, then Notebook transcript, summary, and AskFred | You want a mobile meeting record to revisit | Processing state and actual account conditions |
| Otter | Direct microphone capture and live transcription | Your conversation fits its supported speech languages | Network, microphone placement, and language setting |
| Notta | Language-selected capture, including a supported bilingual route | You need two explicitly selected spoken languages | Duration, minutes, summaries, and bilingual allowances |
| FoneClaw Voice Notes | Saved audio, transcript, summary, and chapters | You want source review before a separate follow-up | Compatible Agent, plugin edition, and model conditions |
We publish FoneClaw; these are conditional choices based on documented workflows, not scored performance winners. Start with the row that matches your required output.
Here, bot-free means no online participant is invited for the in-person microphone capture. It does not mean invisible recording, no consent, or wholly offline processing. Confirm participants' recording and sharing choices before starting.
If your main issue is device compatibility or existing-file input, Best Google Recorder Alternatives for Android Without a Pixel covers that selection. This comparison focuses on the face-to-face meeting itself.
Granola: Live Notes That Sync to Desktop
Granola fits a meeting where you want to start a note deliberately, add optional rough notes, and continue working with the result on desktop. Its Android introduction describes in-person note-taking and desktop synchronization.
The shared mobile guide covers Android controls through the ongoing Taking notes notification, including pause, resume, and end. Start the note before the discussion and check that you end it when the intended capture is finished.
The review method is an important distinction. Granola's transcription guide states that it does not save audio or video for later playback and does not import prerecorded audio for transcription. Review its transcript and notes, and confirm consequential details with participants when necessary. Do not choose it expecting to replay the original meeting afterward.
Android mobile capture also does not transcribe a virtual meeting running inside another app. Desktop system-audio examples are not instructions for doing that on your phone. Custom templates and external integrations require desktop, so check whether your complete workflow depends on returning to a computer.
For speech, the language guide explains that Android and iOS automatically analyze the conversation and choose one predominant spoken language; users do not manually select it in the mobile app. The guide recommends single-language meetings. Desktop Multi-language and manual language settings are separate capabilities, not Android code-switching controls. Mobile summaries are generated in the majority detected language, with no manual mobile summary-language setting.
Choose Granola when that live-note workflow and review method fit. If retained audio is essential evidence for your meeting, use a route that actually provides it.
Fireflies: Direct Capture and a Meeting Notebook
Fireflies offers a direct mobile recording route for an in-person discussion. Its official mobile guide distinguishes three jobs: recording with the microphone, uploading an existing audio or video file, and adding a bot to an online meeting. Select the microphone route for the task here.
Record the discussion, use pause and resume as needed, then stop and give the meeting a recognizable title. Include enough context to distinguish it from another meeting on the same project without putting unnecessary sensitive information in the title.
After processing, locate the meeting in Notebook and inspect its transcript and summary. AskFred can help you question the meeting content, but use the transcript to check whether an answer preserves conditions and corrections. A meeting that is still processing should not be treated as a complete record.
The mobile feed includes tasks, but derived task information still needs review. A person's name beside an issue does not prove that the person accepted an assignment. Check the underlying wording before treating a proposed owner or date as settled.
Also distinguish reviewing an action item from writing it into another app. The documented mobile workflow does not establish automatic Android external-app writes or identical desktop integrations.
Before using Fireflies for a full session, check the current account and plan conditions relevant to recording and processing. Do not infer unlimited meeting length from being able to start a recording. This is a useful candidate when you want direct capture followed by a meeting notebook, rather than live notes alone.
Otter: Live Conversations in Supported Languages
Otter's direct-recording guide describes mobile microphone capture, naming the conversation, and pause, resume, and stop controls. This route is separate from inviting its online meeting Notetaker. After stopping, check the saved conversation and processing state before relying on the transcript.
Microphone placement matters for a shared room. Otter's in-person recording guidance recommends placing the microphone near participants. A Bluetooth headset may favor its wearer while missing quieter people across the table.
Live words require an active network. During an outage, the guidance says to keep the app open and recording so cached audio can upload after reconnection. That is not a guarantee of recovery or offline AI transcription. Check the eventual upload and processed result rather than interpreting missing live text as a finished transcript.
Select the spoken language before the meeting. The language guide documents English, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Mandarin Chinese with Simplified output, with German and Chinese marked beta. It specifically supports simultaneous French/English switching when French is the default; that exception does not establish support for every language pair.
Interface language and Chat translation are different from speech recognition. A translated answer cannot recover speech the original transcription failed to recognize. Choose Otter when the actual spoken-language setting, network needs, and source-review workflow fit the room.
Notta: Select Languages and Check Recording Allowances
Notta is a candidate when you need an explicitly selected bilingual capture route. Its mobile bilingual guide describes selecting two supported spoken languages before recording and optionally enabling translation.
Choose direct recording for the in-person session. Existing-file import and the online-meeting bot are separate routes. Recheck the language pair each time because the last-used pair persists; a previous meeting's settings may not match today's conversation.
With translation off, the route retains spoken-language transcription. With translation on, it shows the original with translation into the other selected language. Keep those layers distinct when checking a decision: translated wording is not a replacement for verifying what was transcribed.
Allowances need more than one check. The bilingual guide documents four free bilingual uses per month across plans, with each processed recording or file counting as one use. That does not establish unlimited duration.
The separate Notta plan guide lists 120 monthly transcription minutes for the ordinary Free plan but a three-minute per-recording limit. A monthly total therefore does not establish that a one-hour meeting is covered. Check per-recording duration, transcription minutes, AI Notes, and bilingual allowances separately in your account; do not assume how one allowance overrides another.
Choose Notta after confirming both your language pair and session-length conditions. Being able to select two languages is useful, but it is not a promise of perfect recognition, every dialect, or an unrestricted meeting allowance.
FoneClaw: Saved Audio, Reviewed Notes, and Separate Follow-Up
Our Voice Notes plugin fits a saved-recording workflow: open it through a compatible FoneClaw Agent, allow microphone access when prompted, record, pause or resume as needed, then save and name the recording.
Generate the transcript, AI summary, and chapters, then inspect important claims against the audio. Check corrected dates, negation, and conditional language before accepting a decision or extracting an action item. A polished summary does not make an unresolved assignment definite.
If you want a supported personal follow-up created, make that a separate reviewed request. Confirm the task title, date, and destination, then inspect the actual saved record. Extracting actions does not authorize sending the notes to all attendees or assigning work to a person merely mentioned in the conversation.
For recurring project discussions, collections can combine at least two saved recordings and reuse their existing transcripts. FoneClaw Recording Collections: Build a Source-Checked Project Review explains how to trace changed decisions without repeating the full procedure here.
Voice Notes is free, but it requires a compatible Agent, and Agent or model usage may have separate conditions or costs. Our Agent features describe Full APK plugin support with required setup and permissions; Google Play Lite cannot install APK plugins. Capture and model quality affect results, and wholly offline AI processing is not guaranteed.
Choose this route for saved audio and review before follow-up. Do not assume arbitrary external-file imports, automatic speaker identity, timestamp-linked citations, or universal bilingual recognition from those capabilities.
Verify a Short Session Before Choosing
Try a short, consented, nonsensitive session before relying on a candidate for an important meeting. This is a proposed reader exercise, not testing we performed. Use Android AI Meeting Recording Consent: From Capture to Confirmed Actions to prepare recording and sharing choices.
Define success before starting:
- The quietest participant's contribution is represented.
- A negation survives, such as “the proposal is not approved.”
- A corrected date replaces the earlier suggestion without erasing the distinction.
- A proposal remains separate from a confirmed decision.
- Unassigned work stays unresolved rather than acquiring an invented owner.
- The ended session produces saved output you can actually review.
Check microphone placement, language settings, pause and resume, ending the session, and processing completion. With Granola, inspect the transcript and notes and confirm details with participants; do not expect audio replay. With other routes, replay audio only where it is actually available and supported.
For help preparing and checking one saved recording, AI Audio Summarizer for Android: Record, Transcribe, and Review Notes covers that workflow.
Keep separate notes on capture quality, saved output, and any follow-up you confirmed. If a quiet contribution or crucial condition is missing, fix the setup or choose another route before sharing the result.
Make the final choice from your required evidence, spoken languages, desktop dependence, and account conditions. The useful app is the one whose in-person workflow you can operate and verify, not simply the one that produces the longest summary.
