Notta vs Granola on Android: Languages, Meeting Notes, and Source Review

Compare Notta and Granola for the same Android meeting: bilingual recognition, audio input, review evidence, recording limits, and desktop requirements.

An Android phone and two sets of meeting notes arranged for comparison
📋 Key Takeaways
  • Choose Notta when a supported bilingual pair or existing-audio import is essential. Choose Granola when live in-person notes and desktop sync fit, without requiring saved-audio playback.
  • Notta lets you select two supported spoken languages. Granola Android automatically chooses one predominant language; desktop Multi-language capabilities do not establish mobile bilingual recognition.
  • Check Notta's duration, monthly minutes, imports, AI Notes, and bilingual allowances separately. Check Granola's desktop requirements for templates, integrations, and workspace creation.
  • Compare the same project discussion using source wording, corrected details, conditions, and unresolved owners. Review any action suggestion before sharing or separately saving a task.

Choose for the Same Android Meeting

For Android meeting notes, choose Notta when selected-pair bilingual capture or processing an existing audio file is essential. Choose Granola when you want live in-person notes that sync to desktop and do not need to replay saved meeting audio afterward.

Keep the proposed task identical: a consented Android in-person project discussion containing a corrected number, a conditional decision, and an action with no assigned owner. Decide beforehand whether the discussion uses one language or genuinely switches between two.

If bilingual capture is essential, do not simplify the meeting to one language just to make both products appear equivalent. Likewise, if the task is single-language note-taking, do not assume bilingual features make one service automatically better.

Before using either route with participant material, Android AI Meeting Recording Consent: From Capture to Confirmed Actions covers recording permission and sharing choices.

Compare What Goes In and What You Can Review

Notta's mobile bilingual guide distinguishes live microphone capture, existing-file import, and an online-meeting bot. For the in-person comparison, use direct recording and inspect the relevant language options before starting.

Import becomes a materially different choice when the discussion has already been recorded. You can evaluate Notta's supported import route against your file and account conditions, while retaining your owned original for review. That does not make file import the same task as live microphone capture.

Granola's shared mobile guide describes starting an in-person note in its native Android app. Its ongoing Taking notes notification provides pause, resume, and end controls. Optional rough notes can record details you want to preserve, and the resulting notes sync with desktop.

The important evidence difference appears afterward. Granola's transcription guide says it does not save original audio or video for later playback and does not import prerecorded audio for transcription. Review its transcript and notes, and confirm consequential details with participants. Do not plan a later audio replay that the workflow does not provide.

Granola mobile also cannot transcribe a virtual meeting running inside another phone app. Desktop system-audio capture is a separate capability, not an Android instruction. Neither direct microphone route here requires inviting an online meeting participant, but that does not establish offline processing.

Before choosing, write down the evidence you must retain. If an existing recording must be processed, or later source-audio access is mandatory, those requirements deserve attention before comparing the appearance or length of the generated notes.

Check Android Language Behavior, Not Desktop Promises

Notta documents selecting two languages from its supported bilingual set before recording, with optional translation. Its guide lists 23 languages; confirm that your actual pair is available rather than assuming every dialect or combination will work equally well.

The last-used pair persists, so check it before each meeting. With translation off, the route retains spoken-language transcription. With translation on, the original appears with translation into the other selected language. Inspect the original words first: a fluent translation can preserve a mistaken amount or lose the significance of a negation already missed during recognition.

Granola's language guidance describes a different Android behavior. The mobile app automatically analyzes speech and chooses one predominant spoken language. You do not manually select that recognition language in the Android app.

The guide distinguishes 17 mobile languages from 31 desktop languages. Desktop Multi-language supports code-switching, but that does not establish Android parity. A meeting that requires both languages to be represented is therefore not the same supported task on Granola mobile.

Granola mobile summaries also follow the majority detected language automatically, with no manual mobile summary-language selector. Desktop settings should not be treated as a way to reconstruct missing spoken-language content from a previously transcribed mobile meeting.

Keep interface language separate from both recognition and summary output. Granola's English interface does not restrict the app to English speech, but neither does a supported speech-language list establish simultaneous bilingual capture.

For the comparison, record the actual spoken language or pair and expected output before starting. If your requirement is bilingual evidence, preserve that requirement in the decision rather than accepting a single-language summary as an equivalent result.

Confirm Allowances and Desktop Dependencies

Notta's allowances require several separate checks. The bilingual guide documents four free bilingual uses per month across plans, counting each processed recording or file as one use, with additional use handled through an add-on. Four uses do not establish unlimited duration.

The Notta plan guide lists 120 monthly transcription minutes for the ordinary Free plan, alongside a three-minute per-recording limit. A monthly total does not establish that a one-hour meeting is covered.

Check duration, remaining transcription minutes, imports, AI Notes, and bilingual allowances independently. A base-plan upgrade does not automatically increase add-on quotas. If the relationship between a bilingual use and your duration entitlement is unclear, confirm the actual conditions before relying on the app for a long session.

Granola's decision points include desktop dependence. The mobile guide supports creating folders and switching existing workspaces, while workspace creation, custom templates and their application, external integrations, and calendar changes require desktop. Notes syncing between devices does not make every desktop operation available on Android.

Use this preparation worksheet:

  • Session: [Expected length, frequency, and spoken language or pair]
  • Input: [Live Android microphone or owned existing file]
  • Required output: [Transcript, translation, summary, or retained source evidence]
  • Notta conditions: [Relevant duration, minutes, imports, AI Notes, and bilingual entitlement]
  • Granola dependencies: [Any required desktop template, workspace, or integration operation]
  • Access: [Current account, store availability, permissions, and organization restrictions]

Choose from the workflow you can actually complete. A short sample may establish that capture starts, but it does not establish that the full meeting length or later processing is covered. Likewise, desktop access should be an explicit requirement, not a surprise after capture.

Use One Evidence-Review Card for Both

The following is a hypothetical review problem for you to use, not a report of outputs or tests we performed. Keep the underlying project facts identical when evaluating either service.

A participant proposes a limited pilot only if validation passes. Later in the discussion, the proposed quantity is corrected from 40 to 14. No launch approval is given, and the person responsible for the next action remains unassigned.

Expected checkWhat your comparison record should establish
Corrected quantity14 is retained as the correction, not combined with or replaced by 40
Conditional proposalThe validation condition remains attached to the pilot
Approval statusA proposal is not rewritten as an approved launch
OwnerThe assignment remains unresolved rather than being inferred from a name
Source completenessMissing turns or language sections are identified, not filled by the summary
Review evidenceThe available transcript, source material, notes, or participant confirmation supports the finding

On Notta, check both original languages before inspecting translation and summary when using the supported bilingual route. On Granola, first confirm that the task is suitable for single-language mobile capture, then inspect the transcript and your contemporaneous notes. Ask participants to confirm uncertain details rather than expecting saved-audio replay.

If both languages are essential and Granola mobile does not meet that requirement, record the mismatch. Do not rewrite the task or invent a pass/fail output to complete the comparison.

Derived action suggestions are not evidence that someone accepted an assignment, and a task listed in notes is not proof that it was saved elsewhere. Review the result and intended recipients before sharing. Keep any later task creation separate from interpreting the discussion.

Choose the Follow-Up Route You Actually Need

Our Voice Notes plugin offers a narrower third route when you want to record within a compatible FoneClaw Agent, retain saved audio, and review the notes before a separate supported personal follow-up. It is not a native migration bridge from Notta or Granola, or a proven universal bilingual recognition alternative.

Record, save, and name the session, generate the transcript, summary, and chapters, then inspect consequential claims against the audio. If you want a personal task created, review its exact title, date, and destination as a separate request, then inspect the actual saved record.

Collections can use at least two saved recordings and reuse their existing transcripts for a different, cross-meeting task. FoneClaw Recording Collections: Build a Source-Checked Project Review explains that procedure.

Voice Notes is free and requires a compatible Agent. Our Agent features describe Full APK plugin support with required setup and permissions; Google Play Lite cannot install APK plugins. Agent or model usage may have separate conditions or costs. Audio and model quality affect results, and wholly offline AI processing is not guaranteed.

  • Choose Notta: the supported language pair or existing-file route is necessary, and your actual allowances cover the task.
  • Choose Granola: single-language live notes and desktop sync fit, and saved-audio replay is not required.
  • Choose another route: essential evidence, language, duration, or device requirements remain unmet.

For broader capture options, use Best Android In-Person Meeting Notes Apps Without a Bot: 5 Routes. For pair-specific recognition choices, Bilingual Meeting Transcription Apps for Android: Choose by Language Pair separates the documented routes.

Before committing, confirm the same meeting requirement, the available review evidence, and the complete account and desktop conditions. Keep the route that meets those needs without turning uncertain notes into confirmed decisions.
